Sri Lanka

Set in the Indian Ocean in South Asia, the tropical island nation of Sri Lanka has 2500 years of well chronicled history. It is a place where the original soul of Buddhism still flourishes and where nature's beauty remains abundant and unspoiled. Arthur C. Clarke aptly describes Sri Lanka as "the best place in which to view the universe."

Sri Lanka has ample to offer: Scenery, adventure, wildlife, sun and fun, historical interests, nice hotels, great cuisine, folk dance, arts and crafts and a different culture of smiling people.

The historical sites of Anuradhapura, capital of Sri Lanka (Ceylon) from the 2th century BC to the 11th century AD; Polonnaruwa and Sigiriya provide evidence of a proud past, and the marvels of ancient engineering.

Sigirigya is thought to be one of the oldest tourist attractions in the world, offering visitors a breathtaking experience. The rock, which stands more than 200m tall, is said to be a solidified magma plug from a long eroded and extinct volcano, and the remains of a palace from the 5th century on its summit.

Another UNESCO World Heritage Site, Dambulla Cave Monastery, is an extraordinary and unique complex – the cave temple, Buddhist mural paintings in five caves and 157 statues of various sizes. It is an outstanding example of religious art.
